Chono

The Chono range is produced by Geo Wines, a company co-owned by world renowned winemaker Alvaro Espinoza. A leader in the development of organic and biodynamic wines within Chile, Alvaro was elected Wine Personality of the Year by Wine & Spirit International in 2007. In the mid 1990’s he also led the discovery and recognition that some grapes in Chile initially thought to be Merlot were in fact Carmenère.

Chono logo
The name Chono comes from an ancient Chilean tribe described by Darwin as one of the bravest native tribes he ever encountered and the only tribe to resist being conquered by the Spaniards. Chono wines are produced from grapes grown in regions that best express their varietal characters including Merlot from Rapel, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère from Maipo, Syrah from Elqui Valley and Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca.

The Chono range is produced in limited volumes and follows organic viticultural principles. The winemaking process aims to enhance fruitiness and freshness with elegance and complexity and careful attention is taken to avoid over extraction during maceration.
