Logan Wines, the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the NSW Central Ranges region, was crowned winner of the 2012 Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine Travel Awards for Best Cellar Door Experience at an awards dinner held at the Park Hyatt, Sydney.

Logan took out the award from a competitive field of four finalists that included Port Phillip Estate (VIC), Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove (VIC) and Moorilla Estate (TAS).

The Logan cellar door, located in the hamlet of Apple Tree Flat just outside of Mudgee, is also known as the Logan Tasting Room. It combines stunning architecture with functionality, creating an environment that is both warm and welcoming yet sophisticated and impressive. The space is the brainchild of winemaker Peter Logan and his wife Hannah, General Manager of Logan Wines.

The two dreamed of a space that would pay homage to the stunning vista of mountains and vineyards afforded by the elevated site and offer a sanctuary of comfort and luxury from which to sample their wine. Working with renowned architect Stephen Buzacott, Peter and Hannah created a space that is all glass and light, its stunning façade and welcoming interiors offering uninterrupted views of the Logan family’s Mudgee vineyard.

Cellar Door Manager Leigh Sargent accepted the award on Peter and Hannah’s behalf, commenting;

“It was a delight to accept this award for our Logan Tasting Room. Peter and Hannah have managed to create a space that takes people’s breath away for its beauty and impressiveness, yet envelopes visitors in its warmth and encourages lengthy visits. I’m one of the lucky ones, spending my working days from this ambient space, admiring the view and hearing endless enthusiastic comments from our visitors.”

The annual Gourmet Traveller Travel Awards, presented in association with Nespresso and now in their sixth year, pay tribute to the best Australia offers in the way of unforgettable holiday moments. An expert panel of travel writers, editors and industry professionals gathered to review their top experiences of the past year, and from their recommendations shortlists of four finalists were compiled for each of the 13 categories. Readers then vote to determine the best of the best.

Twice a year, Logan hosts its “Dinner with…” events at the Logan Tasting Room in Mudgee. High profile chefs from Sydney travel to Mudgee and partner with Peter Logan to create a food and wine extravaganza, typically a five-course degustation matched to new vintage Logan wines.

The Logan Tasting Room is located on the Castlereagh Highway, Apple Tree Flat via Mudgee. If you're planning a visit to Australia's wine region, get in touch, we'd be delighted to arrange a visit for you.
