If you don’t know already the climate and landscapes of the Orange region in Australia are pretty perfect for growing wine grapes and the quality of the wines they produce is pretty good too! That’s why we’ve taken on the wines from Logan, a highly acclaimed winery you may already have heard of.

Logan is a family owned and operated business with an emphasis on cool climate quality wines from Orange and Mudgee in the Central Ranges of NSW Australia. Peter Logan is the Chief Winemaker behind one of Australia’s most exciting young wine labels. He studied Oenology at the University of Adelaide in South Australia after a stint as a chemist and later as a musician! Soon after his studies and after completing a few vintages in the Hunter region, Peter set out to create his own label and looked to the high altitude regions of Orange and Mudgee.

The Logan vineyards in Orange range from 850 to 1050 metres above sea level on rich volcanic soils and make up the highest wine region in Australia. The Mudgee vineyards are at a slightly lower 600 metres altitude where the temperature is somewhat milder. The climate of these neighbouring regions makes the area ideal for producing wines that reflect Peter’s winemaking philosophy – to combine soft, rich Australian fruit character with an elegance, structure and savouriness more common in European wines.

Logan produces wines under three labels and has strived to create bold, iconic labels which articulate the unique characteristics of the wines. The eponymous and premium Logan range consists of traditional varieties and blends while the Weemala selections of quirky and approachable wines include more unusual European varietals. The third label, Apple Tree Flat, consists of great quality wines at a very approachable price point, to allow for a little Logan indulgence every day.

We presented 3 wines of the Logan collection at the Boutique Wineries Tasting on the 20th of September and were delighted to see that they met some admirers!
